The first Nadela in Ginatilan was a parish priest who was assigned in the said town. He invited the couple Hilarion Nadela & Asuncion Guerrero to join him and thus the Nadelas took up root in that part of Cebu. The Nadela couple originally came from San Nicolas. According to oral history passed down to the descendants, the Nadelas owned the lot currently occupied by the San Nicolas church. It was donated to the church after the Nadelas won a court case against an Echavez family. as related by Texx Nadela - a descendant of Hilarion Nadela
NATALIA NADELA One of the Nadela pioneers in Ginatilan was a certain Natalia "Taling" Nadela. Natalia was impregnated by a certain Spanish soldier surnamed Cortez. So as not to shame Natalia and the Nadela name, the priest who baptized the boy declined to name him just a Nadela but instead was given the surname Caballero, hence he was named Rufino Nadela Caballero. Rufino worked as a policeman in Ginatilan until he married Severa Ferolin and eventually migrated to Pikit, Cotabato in the early 1920s to become a farmer. - as related by Rod de Sequera of Vancouver, Canada, a grandson of Rufino. Note: Regarding these two stories, it is quite possible that the priest who baptized Rufino is the same parish priest who was also a Nadela hence, he did not want to put his own family name to shame.
