| The Origin of the Nadelas |

I heard from my father that the Nadelas originally come from San Nicolas. This is an area in Cebu City, somewhere between Taboan market and Pasil, with the Catholic church as the main landmark in the 1980s. I understand that my grandfather migrated to Sangat, San Fernando probably because he married someone from that area. But I also heard my father said it has something to do with the revolution. My father was born in 1908 so my grandfather has been around then during the revolution against the Spanish rule. My grandfather Paterio has several siblings:Graciano, Indiego, Marciana, Urbano, Fortunata, Cecilia, Simeona and an unnamed sister. But where did my great grandfather come from? What was his first name? Was his surname really a Nadela? The name Nadela definitely has a spanish ring to it. My father and his siblings have strong Spanish features - white skinned, sharp nose and some of them are quite tall.
Somewhere near the city of Lugo is a minor city or may be a municipality called Nadela. It is located just 7 km from the capital city of Lugo. One of its attractions is the Casa Grande de Nadela which is a restaurant. There is also a company called Arias Nadela which deals with construction materials and furnishings. This somehow validates the idea that the word Nadela is Spanish in origin and that my great grandfather was a Spaniard as my father once told us. I am not inclined to believe though that my great grandfather founded the city of Nadela in Spain. I am more inclined to believe that he comes from the area and for some reasons adopted the name when he migrated to the Philippines. So far this is what I have discovered in my search for the origin of the Nadelas.
