Latest Update - 03 Dec 2008 I was finally able to trace the names of my great grandparents through the help of Dr. Josefina Nadela-Batayola. Dr. Finny & I are second cousins which means that we have the same great grandparents. According to her records, the names of our great grandparents are Potenciano Nadela of San Nicolas, Cebu City and Hilaria Bascon of Talisay, Cebu. I am now on the hunt for the names of the siblings of Potenciano so that i can link our branch to the other Nadela families.
-----------
Andres Nadela is the oldest Nadela I was able to trace. According to FamilySearch.org he was born in 1824 and in 1849, at the age of 25, he married Bernarda Paralisan. They are both from Carcar, Cebu, Philippines. The only recorded sibling of the marriage was Don Dionisio (Francisco) Nadela who became the cabeza actual in Carcar. Don Dionisio married at the age of 17 to Dona Potenciana Satot. Their marriage was blessed with three sons and one daughter - Vicente, Cradio(aka Troadio/Trandio), Esperidion and Pomposa. (Most of the information here is provided by VIP Aleonar who has been researching his ancestors who also come from Carcar). Esperidion died at the age of 20 and there was no record of any marriage or any children outside of marriage. Vicente got married at the age of 18 to Basilisa dela Cerna in Aug 18 1885. Vicente was born in 1867 while Cradio was born in 1873. My father, Felipe, was born in 1908. Assuming that he was born when my grandfather, Paterio, was about 20, then Paterio was born sometime in 1888. If Vicente was Paterio's father, Vicente would be 21 years old at Paterio's birth. If Cradio was Paterio's father, Cradio would be 15 years old at Paterio's birth. Since it is unlikely that Cradio would be married at an age earlier than 15 years old, Vicente is the most likely candidate of being my great grandfather and Dionisio would be my great, great grandfather and Andres my great, great, great grandfather. This is quite neat really. The only problem is the age gap between Dionisio and Potenciana. Potenciana is 9 years older than Dionisio. Is this at all possible during their time? Perhaps something is wrong with their recorded date of births. It is interesting to note that one of the 1st degree cousins of my father was named Vicente. I also have a cousin named Dionisio and an uncle whose name is very close to Esperidion (Ceridion). If you have additional information about the individuals mentioned in this article, please email me .
